Carl Ekstrom ArtistCARL EKSTROM

Carl Ekstrom grew up surfing and hanging out at Windansea. He shaped his first board at 15, and went on to work for Velzy, Jacob, Bing and Con, the leading brands of the 1960's. His patented asymmetrical surfboard revolutionized modern surfboard and snowboard design.

Ekstrom's credits include custom furniture for Pucci, Nissan Design International and Callaway Golf. Collaborated with Toza Radovich to create sculpted doors for the New York Museum of Modern Art. Carl's assymetric surfboards are featured in Andy Warhol's soon-to-be released posthumous film, "San Diego Surfers." Carl also created the Tambour Chair for the American Institute of Architects; and the iconic Dumbo sign for Disneyland.

Ekstrom has built complex fiberglass restorations of racing cars including the RSK Porsche for Ted Gildred.  He recently collaborated with Tom Lochtefeld and Stanly Pleskunas to design and build the Flowrider, the world's first commercial standing wave machine. Flowrider provides landlocked surfers in over 100 locations with pitching tubes comparable to nature's own creations.
